FAQ

Q.  Who is this mod intended for?
A.  For the most part, adult masochists who enjoy playing females and solving mysteries.

Q. What inspired you to make this?
A. It was a mod from Lamb named "Demonheart" that truly inspired me. The evil companions, Brash and Raze, were well written, and the mod proves there is massive appeal for evil characters. I’ve also seen great feedback regarding Vico in “A Dance with Rogues.” Something else that inspired me are mystery games and novels. I felt there wasn't enough mystery elements in the NWN modding community. The NWN engine has shown its age, and to me, it feels wasteful seeing some mods concentrate only on exploration and combat when they instead could also be telling a rich thought-provoking narrative.

Q.  Will I enjoy this if i’m a guy? I have to romance dudes?
A. If you enjoy role-playing as females in MMO’s, RPG’s,  etc. then I hope you’ll enjoy it. I’m a guy, so I know what most guys don’t want to see. The story isn’t some sappy Romeo and Juliet. Many of the men have questionable motivations, and there is dark story-telling, appealing to both men and women.

Q. Will there be a girl I can romance?
A. I'm not a fan of lesbian relationships (and no, I'm not a fan of male on male relationships either, lol). I could write a lesbian relationship into the script, but I'd probably half-ass it, and I don't want to release something I'm not proud of. (Edit: Although, anything is possible, lol).

Q. Is this an open-world mod?
A. Absolutely not. I prefer to tell a strong narrative with interesting characters. I've read the whispers. Some people say they don't like the mod A Dance with Rogues because it's too restricting. I understand western gaming is shifting to more open-ended worlds, including the Witcher 3, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto, etc. The problem is creating an open-world for just one developer (myself) not only contradicts my vision, but would make my work a lot harder (and longer) to accomplish. I want to keep some of the players decisions fairly open-ended, but the buck stops there.

Q. How "dark and twisted" is this mod?
A. The mod includes what the community has come to expect from NWN adult mods. There is nothing too twisted, like decapitations, goro, scat, etc. There is the potential for rape, though. If you were fine playing a Dance with Rogues, Gladiatrix, Wink and Kiss, etc. then you'll be fine here. If you prefer, some sex scenes can be skipped if you roleplay a defiant character.

*NEW*  Q.  Why can I only play as a Paladin, Fighter, Rogue, or Barbarian?
A. That’s the way this mod was designed and is most fitting for the story. The story wouldn’t make sense otherwise. I prefer to tell a strong, focused, lore-friendly story over one with unrestricted freedom. The Church of Knox has a zero tolerance policy for magic-users possessing spells of a destructive nature, and their Inquisitors are no exception.

Q. Why can I only be female?
A. There is a huge trend in the Neverwinter Night modding scene where it’s customary to play female protagonists. This is evident in the mods A Dance with Rogues, Gladiatrix,  Wink and Kiss, and Demonheart. Plus, by forcing a gender and class restriction, I can more efficiently prepare content targeted towards you, the player.

Q. How are you handling the in-game mystery solving?
A. Your inquisitor is an investigator tasked with visiting hotspots around the city where magic has been used. Your job is to find heretics (aka magic users) who either use magic, possess the capacity for magic, or bear magical contraband (ex. magic scrolls), then kill them. Once on-site, you must gather evidence, interview suspects, and reach a conclusion who the heretic is. The Council of Knox hears your case through the eyes and ears of a Rook Guard, who basically acts as the judge, jury, and assisted executioner. If you succeed in deducing and killing the heretic, you’ll win praise from the Council and your fellow companions. If you fail to provide proper evidence, The Council will demand a mass genocide of all suspects present to guarantee the heretic does not live, meaning you’ll be indirectly responsible for the deaths of innocent victims. You may be thinking, “What happens if I’m evil and screw up on purpose to continue the story?” The Council frowns on this. They enjoy promoting themselves as a saviour of the people, and murdering innocents contradicts this, and they’d rather not spend resources covering up your failed mess. If you fail, the Council will dismiss you from your services as an inquisitor, then kill you to avoid you exposing any unpleasantries surrounding The Church of Knox. Game over.

Q. How much combat and exploration is there?
A. There is enough combat and exploration to break any semblance of dialog monotony, but otherwise, I prefer a text-driven experience. If you’ve played Planescape Torment, then you’ll know the balance I’m striving for. It’s about 20% combat and 80% dialog.

Q. How will the role-playing work?
A. I try to always offer multiple answer options for the protagonist, so the player may roleplay their ideal female character. You can be a female who is defiant or submissive, and good or evil. These decisions are made through the typical multiple choice dialog menu. The bottom answers will always be submissive and/or evil, while the top answers are good and/or defiant. Any options in-between will be neutral or indecisive answers.

Q. How many endings will you include, and how will my choices impact these endings?
A. I'm striving for a Japanese visual novel approach. Unlike most western games offering a huge decision near the end (ex. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic), the Japanese visual novel approach provides major decisions near the middle of the story. Each route branch caters to a specific in-game character based on your past decisions. Generally, there will be two endings for each character, based on your actions. If one character is resoundingly successful based on feedback, I may create a sequel catering to that specific character, further expanding their story, but I'm getting ahead of myself, lol.

Q. Does Dragon Age: Inquisition, have any relation to this mod?
A. No, that's a coincidence. They use inquisitors in an RPG setting, but in a different context.

Q. Do you know fluent English?
A. Yes. If it matters, I’m American, so I prefer NFL over soccer and color over colour, lol.

Q. Do I need to know chess to play or understand this mod?
A. No. The chess imagery is purely symbolic.

Q. What is the best way to contact you?
A. Either leave a comment on this blog, or email me at dwurfur007 @ yahoo . com (no spaces)

    1. Sorry, I hadn't noticed your post. As I continue to develop my script, I realize being forced into a Paladin class isn't necessary like I thought it would be. I've now enabled the following playable classes: Paladin, Fighter, Rogue, and Barbarian.

I don't agree with enabling Cleric, because they do have a lot of spells deemed for heretics, like Monster Summoning, Inflict Wounds, Contagion, etc.
